FACT
· Nearly half of American youths aged 12-21 years are not vigorously active on a regular basis. · More than 60 % of U.S. adults do not engage in the recommended amount of activity. HEALTH BURDENS THAT COULD BE REDUCED THROUGH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY · 13.5 million people have coronary heart disease. · 1.5 million people suffer from a heart attack in a given year. · 8 million people have adult-onset (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. · 95,000 people are newly diagnosed with colon cancer each year. · 50 million people have high blood pressure. · Over 60 million people (a third of the U.S. population!) are overweight. The event's purpose is to promote family involvement in physical activity, one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health. We will have health screenings as well as activities for the whole family. Any questions may be directed to Amanda Payne at 217.532.4175 or Michelle Rosetto at 217.532.3896.
