This new advanced MRI system generates high-resolution images that will help clinicians make a stronger diagnosis. This could eliminate the need for expensive and time-consuming follow-up exams.
Additionally, this MRI system can accommodate a wide range of patients who are generally difficult to image, such as women with dense breast tissue or have implants. These women are typically at a higher risk for breast cancer because the x-rays used in annual mammography screening cannot penetrate that type of tissue. A new Siemens MRI scanner could allow physicians to image these women and to potentially detect disease in its earliest stages when it is most treatable.
While an MRI system has many clinical benefits, many hospitals the size of Hillsboro Area Hospital find it difficult to justify its cost – typically $1.5 million for a system of this magnet strength. Siemens tapped its extensive research and development resources to develop the Essenza and market it for just $800,000 – nearly half the cost. And now, facilities have the opportunity to actually win this advanced piece of medical technology in the Win An MRI contest.
